The role
Databricks Platform Engineer
Permanent | Canberra or Melbourne | Up to $120k incl. super | Baseline clearance held | December start
One of Australia's most active Data & AI practices is growing its sovereign delivery team and needs a Databricks platform engineer for secure, cleared work. The job is to build a Databricks workspace on AWS from a blank page, properly, then stay hands-on engineering on top of it. This suits someone who has built a workspace, not just worked in one.
The role
On the platform side, you'll design and implement the workspace to current best practice: Unity Catalog and metastore setup, private link, VPC and network isolation, IAM roles and instance profiles. All of it lives in Terraform with CI/CD, not console clicks. Once it's live, you'll own cluster policies, access controls, compute cost and performance monitoring.
On the engineering side, you'll contribute to pipeline development, support the Unity Catalog migration and take part in code reviews.
What you'll bring
- Hands-on experience building and administering a Databricks workspace on AWS
- Unity Catalog and metastore configuration
- AWS networking and security: VPC, private link, S3, IAM roles and instance profiles
- Terraform or equivalent infrastructure as code
- CI/CD for platform configuration
- The ability to explain why a platform is locked down the way it is, not just which settings were used
- Python and SQL, plus Git, JIRA and Confluence
- Australian citizen with Baseline clearance currently held (NV1 also welcome)
Good to have
- Hive metastore to Unity Catalog migration experience
- Databricks cost management and cluster policy design
What's on offer
- Up to $120k including super
- Permanent role, starting 1 December
- Canberra or Melbourne
- Structured career development, local and international career paths, and flexible work arrangements
